Windy City

This past week (Aug 15-21 2011) I drove my family to Chicago for a 4 day stay downtown. We were there 2 years ago as our first time and loved chicago so much we went again.

This time i was armed with my new Nikon D3100 camera and took a lot of pics (as well as i took pics with my smaller and not as good digital video camera). I will be publishing some of them over the next days/weeks.

This is the first one and its called Windy City to honor Chicago that hosted my family. This is actually a Photo-manipulation of 2 main photos of chicago I took.

The building is the John Hancock building which is one of the tallest and best known in Chicago - our hotel was right beside it. Its 100 stories tall. I used my nikon to take this pic.

The photo of Marilyn Monroe is a huge statue that stands further up on Michigan Ave. by the Chicago River in the middle of a square. I used my cheap camera to take this pic. What is not apparent about this statue of Marilyn is how tall she is. If I stood beside her (as many did) I would be not much taller than her knees! She is HUGE!! I decided to blend these two photos even though the angle of the building is a bit weird to Marilyn - but with the flag blowing in the right direction and Marilyn's skirt lifting in that direction... it was a good fit for composition. I had to create a fake ground for Marilyn to stand on.

Then since the photo of Marilyn was not of good quality I decided to give the whole work an aged Sepia-look. Even had to blur the building a bit so that it matched the blurriness of MArilyn or else the eye would have picked this up.
